What to get ready

  • Photograph of Flour Flour 1.1 lb
  • Photograph of Dry yeast Dry yeast 0.3 oz
  • Photograph of Sugar Sugar 0.4 oz
  • Photograph of Salt Salt 0.3 oz
  • Photograph of Olive oil Olive oil ½ cup
  • Photograph of Za'atar seasoning Za'atar seasoning 2.1 oz

Method

  1. 1 Mix the yeast with warm water and sugar, and let it sit for 10 minutes until it foams.
  2. 2 Mix the flour with salt, add the yeast and olive oil, and knead for 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and pliable.
  3. 3 Let the dough rise in a bowl covered with a damp cloth for about 1 hour until it doubles in size.
  4. 4 Divide the dough into portions, roll each portion flat to a thickness of 5 mm, and place them on a tray.
  5. 5 Mix za'atar with olive oil to form a thick paste, then spread evenly over the bread.
  6. 6 Bake in the oven at 230°C for 8 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Serve hot.

With an appliance

  • Air fryer 26 min

Replace step 6: spray oil around the edges of the dough, run the air fryer at 235 degrees for 5 minutes, and rotate the dough after 3 minutes; the edges will brown sooner than 3 minutes, and the dough should be rolled into small enough pieces to fit in a basket or divided into batches.
