What to get ready

  • Photograph of Rice Rice 7.1 oz
  • Photograph of Fresh milk Fresh milk 4 ¼ cups
  • Photograph of Sugar Sugar 4.2 oz
  • Photograph of Cinnamon Cinnamon 2 bars
  • Photograph of Raisins Raisins 2.1 oz
  • Photograph of Vanilla Vanilla 1 ⅔ tsp
  • Photograph of Salt Salt 0.1 oz

Method

  1. 1 Wash the rice and soak it in warm water for 20 minutes to allow the grains to swell.
  2. 2 Simmer the rice with water and a cinnamon stick over low heat for 15 minutes, until the rice is soft and the water has almost evaporated.
  3. 3 Pour in the fresh milk, stir well, and cook for another 20 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  4. 4 Add sugar, raisins, salt, and vanilla, cook for another 5 minutes, then turn off the heat.
  5. 5 Scoop into a bowl, sprinkle with cinnamon powder, and enjoy hot or cold.

With an appliance

  • Oven 55 min

Replace step 3: put the rice, milk, and cinnamon in a pot, cover loosely, and place on the middle rack of the oven at 150 degrees for 25 minutes; about 5 minutes longer than on the stovetop, but the milk won't burn, the rice will be evenly creamy, and you only need to stir once.
