Method

  1. 1 Soak white beans overnight, then boil them in boiling water for 45 minutes until almost tender, then drain the water.
  2. 2 Sauté chopped onions and bell peppers in oil for 5 minutes, then add diced beef and stir-fry until cooked through.
  3. 3 Add the thick tomato sauce and red chili powder, stir for 3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. 4 Add the beans, pour in enough water to cover them by about a finger's width, and simmer over low heat for 40 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. 5 Season with salt and pepper, then let the pot rest for 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  6. 6 Cook pilav rice to serve with the dish and enjoy it hot with pickled vegetables.

With an appliance

  • Pressure cooker 1 hr

Instead of boiling in step 1: cook the white beans under high pressure for 15 minutes, then release the pressure naturally for 12 minutes; in step 4, continue simmering with the meat and tomato sauce open for 20 minutes until the sauce thickens.
