Method

  1. 1 Bake whole pumpkin slices at 200 degrees for 35 minutes instead of boiling them.
  2. 2 Baking instead of boiling prevents the filling from absorbing too much water and enhances the pumpkin flavor.
  3. 3 Mash the pumpkin and simmer it with palm sugar, cinnamon, and cloves for 12 minutes until the filling thickens.
  4. 4 Knead the dough with cold butter and one egg, then refrigerate for 1 hour.
  5. 5 Cut the dough into circles, add the filling, fold into a half-circle, and press the edges together with crimpers.
  6. 6 Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar, then bake at 190 degrees for 25 minutes until the crust is golden brown.

With an appliance

  • Air fryer 1 hr 20 min

Replace step 6: spray oil on both sides of the pumpkin-shaped dumplings, bake in a 205-degree hot air oven for 16 minutes, and flip after 8 minutes; the crust will brown sooner than in a conventional oven. Arrange them in a single layer to prevent the sugar and filling from sticking together.
