Manju

5 stepsSteps

Method

  1. 1 Simmer red beans until tender, then mix with sugar to form a thick paste, roll into balls, and let cool.
  2. 2 Mix the flour with the baking powder, sugar, and milk until you have a soft dough; do not knead thoroughly so the bread is not chewy.
  3. 3 Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  4. 4 Divide the dough into balls, flatten them, and wrap each ball completely around the filling, sealing the edges to prevent leaks.
  5. 5 Line the steamer with parchment paper and steam over high heat for 12 minutes, leaving the lid slightly ajar to prevent condensation from dripping onto the surface of the cake and creating holes.

With an appliance

  • Pressure cooker 45 min

Replace step 5: steam manju at low pressure for 6 minutes, then quickly release the pressure, and place a towel under the lid to prevent the surface of the cake from becoming pitted; steps 1–4 remain the same.
